The great All-American veteran Andy Grupa school record holder national champion ran 16:06 for 3rd place and offered some post-race words of wisdom to us young bloods.
We all got beat by a 15 year old with a sharpie markered t-shirt disgracing us for our insufficiencies. How we stared at that for the whole race and couldn't bone-crush him the world will never know.

Snowstorm of epic proportions today. The whole town is in 4inches of disgusting yellow-stained mess. Regardless, our dedication to the cause lives on. From Hixon lower fern loop to rabbit trails to shithouse and back. Lucky us, we also were graced by "Eric Hill". Dave Saucerman bruised the back of his knees from running too much. Mouse is not in the house.

Bauerson and Otto were engaged in an epic battle of ID stealing. Bauerson nearly made Otto cry when he would not return his ID; however, Tom eventually let his guard down and Otto bit back harder. Now Tom lives with no ID. It will be interesting to see how this clash of titans will finally end.

Wednesday Hard-Core Swim and Lift
We got to the weight room earlier than normal and lifted weights until we couldn't raise our arms into the air. squatted until mouse's BO burned a whole in his shorts.
We swam a workout. The idea is to never be on the same side as Tom and since Tom is obsessed with being on the same side as you it ended up being pretty hard. We got 14-16 lengths done in about 18 minutes.

Bauers enters fetal position at Otto's house around 3am. Chris Jenson - boldter's roommate starts yelling until he wakes everyone up at Ottos house. Bauers takes a dump.
8am, Otto's roommates wake up Bauers, Bauers walks home not knowing where his bike is, notices some bloody stools in his next bowel movement.

Good lift, however we had to cut it a bit short because they were closing. The swim was fun. Boldt and I both tried a flip off the high dive. Great fun! We then went to the Cellar and listened to some trance music. Cellar subs were not so good tonight though.

We did the hansen route today doing pick-ups every other block. We didn't do the long AT at the beginning or at the end, just 12 blocks of short ones. To make it about an 8 miler we added on and finished by going through rabbit trails. Boldt and Otto did an extra AT towards the end.

Sunday Apple Blossom 10.4 miles
Breathtaking run through the apple valleys of La Crescent, MN. (see WalkJogRun route).
Jonathan drove the crew around to familiarize ourselves with the route, eventually we figured it out. It wasn't easy to start this run after driving it and seeing what lie ahead but once the hill was crested it was all downhill.
Bauers ran by himself for most of the run which is probably for the best, but it probably wasn't the most enjoyable.

Well it was an interesting and enjoyable run today. However we did end up walking a lot when Otto directed us up a trail that went straight up for about a mile. We ended up at the top of the bluff by the weather station. The view was worth it though. I'd say it was 6 miles of running total, maybe more.

Wednesday night workout
Tom Bauer has been removed for his acts of civil (so far) disobedience.
Tom Bauer also ordered a PITA at the cellar, which took 45 minutes to make.
After 55 pushups, (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10), we did some serious abdominal work, then we violently threw a volleyball at each other for about 5 minutes. Later we swam.

I'm still alive
I just want to apologize for my abscense from the blog for the last month or so. Work just became overbearing and my life has just been crazy. I worked up to 40 miles a week some time ago. I had to take a rest week every other week (25-30 miles) other wise the running and the 11 hour days of hard labor would kill me. Everything was going fine and then I sprained my ankle pretty bad. I had to take 2 weeks of of running. I just started again this Tuesday. I'm feeling good on the runs so far and I will try to hit 50 miles the last week before school.

Its August!
Well, with the coming of the 8th month, training should be underway with some decent consistency and mild intensity. I just ran the Boston Mud Run last night in a little town south of Buffalo. It was the most difficult, sloppiest cc course I had ever seen. 6K of absolute mud and hills. I ran about a 21:40, which means nothing. More importantly I had one of the greatest times of my life in a running situation. I was laughing uncontrollably and falling on my face in mud holes that we're up to my knees... so sweet. Hope everyone is feeling well and avoiding the dramatic heat.

I ran shithouse yesterday in 17:30. I felt okay and I think I can run faster. Next weekend I'll be running another 5k to try to break 17:00 for my first time. I had a total of 35 for the week.

The Mouse is in the House
Well, I finally made it to the blog. I meant to start with this a few days ago but I forgot my password. Anyways, I am in the middle of week 1 according to the schedule emailed to us. I am going to adhere to either schedule B or C...I will decide which one for sure by week 3. So far so good. I did 5 miles on Monday and 4 miles on Tuesday and Wednesday. I took Thursday off. So I am at 13 miles so far this week and the goal is 30. Hopefully starting now I will be posting almost everyday. I hope everyone is doing well.

Early Summer Time
Hello all, I hope this reaches the MD crew with smiles on their faces and excitement in their bones. No training as of yet, but I'm thinking about getting out for some mileage soon. For me, however, training isn't a necessity, just something so I can keep looking good while naked. This is normally the time of year when not running starts to make me go stir crazy. 800m Finals
what a pathetic race we ran. all 4 of us were in the back of the pack the entire time despite the fact we covered nearly 50% of the field. when the leaders made their move with 300 to go, we didn't respond until it was too late.

Friday 800 trials
We all made it to the finals, but the times were slow and races awkward.
Hummer was in the first heat and ran the whole thing way out in front by himself. He shutdown big time and still ran 155.
Boldt's heat went out in 60 and turned on the heat to come back in a 56/57, this actually worked out to our advantage as many of those people couldn't tolerate the negative split.
In the final heat, we alledgedly in the 200 in 25hi, then finished that lap in a 57 and turned it into a kicking race at the end. Mouse finished 2nd, eau claire 3rd, otto 4th. still otto ran faster than boldt who got 2nd in his heat.

Monday Workout in Hixon
The boys of semi-speed, semi-endurance rolled up to Hixon forest today for a little fartlek-like jaunt through the lower section of the trees. Four repeats of around 65 seconds up the hill on the 600 meter loop were good enough to call it a day. Two mile warm up, two mile cool down and a few 150 meter strides back at the track made our workout pleasant and profitable.

Monday Hills + Fartlek
The whole gang, Mouse, Child, Otto, Shop, and Bolt ran over to 29th street to do 2 full hills and 2 half hills. Mouse led the climbs with 35, and then 33.5 on the longs. We had a moderate wind at our back.

UNI Meet
Pretty decent start for the MD crew and for the team as a whole. TB ran a good race and finished around 2:00.8, Otto and Mouse ran an identical 1:55.9, and Hummer ran a 1:54.9. Then Otto, Mouse, and Hummer ran a 4x400. Mouse and Hummer ran side by side for much of the race and both finished with splits of 50.1, Otto kept it real with a 52.6.

We began with a 3 mile warmup to the site of the Phil Esten Finnish workout grounds. The first Finnish was in about 49 seconds, and the second was in 46 seconds, probably a PR. Kudos to Tom who ran some fine hills today, in the very low 50s. Big improvement, and very promising indeed. We did a 2 mile cool-down to the track to do 5 grueling 150s (avg of 21-22 seconds)

Tuesday Workout
The boys of pain did a nice workout today. 3x500, 6x50, 2x200, 4x50, 1x500. The pace for the 500's was the most important thing today and the group consistently got faster on the whole. The initial 500 was finished in about 1:22 (65.5 through the 400), then we went 1:19 (64.0), 1:17 (61.2), 1:13 (57.5). TB rolled his around 1:28 for the first few, but then thought he was being cheated out of some suffering and so he decided to pick up the pace. Considering the sore legs, of which everyone was complaining before the workout began, the first day on the outdoor track went pretty well.

They were greeted by 70 members of the women's team who were all doing a similar workout... Props to Pat Healy on fantastic coaching.

Spring Break Monday
I found myself running in Waukesha today. It was nice to be home and change the scenery a little bit. I ran for about 29 minutes on what I figure to be a little over 4 miles. Last week I ended up hitting 39 miles for the week, which I was surprised about, but pleased with. I bought new shoes while I was in Minneapolis because the Mizuno's were making my shins very tender and hurting my calves a bit. I went 8 on Sunday for the first run in my new kicks and felt like I had new legs. I hope everyone is enjoying their time away from La Crosse.

Monday workout
The men took to the track today for an easy workout which consisted of 300's 200's and 150's. The intent of the run was to loosen the legs and give a small jolt to the system before the simulator on Tuesday. Hopefully those goals were accomplished.

Pre- Go Time
Well for the final run before we have some provisional marks Boldt and Hummer went on an easy four miles. Oto, TB, and Mouse went three and did a few strides. Tomorrow is a big showdown at Whitewater, should be fun.

Wednesday clean up 3 miler
We generally take wednesdays off, but after a really cool speedworkout yesterday, big dog boldt thought it would be best to loosen up today on a 3 miler. We concluded the day with a few strides on the Mitchell paperclip.

Hansen Fartlek
TB, Boldt, Otto, and Mouse did the Hansen Fartlek today. We ran it a little bit easier than normal because that is what Guthrie instructed. Hummer did an easy run on his own.

Beautiful Sunday morning run, about 31 degrees and perfect sun, we ran the shithouse loop in 39:08. Talked about race strategy and how we are going to take down joe bob in the upcoming race.

Hansennnnn Fartlek
A soft hansen fartlek on a beautiful 50 degree sunny day in La Crosse. We did everything slower than normal after a grueling Tuesday workout left us feeling a bit disoriented.

Tuesday workout, WOW
1000AT, 700, 700, 50,50,50,50,50,50, 200, 200, 50,50,50,50, 700. the 700s were at our 800 PR. About 1:55 for the lead pack, and 2:00 for back. Hit the 200s in about 32 seconds.

First Day of Classes
The second semester has been kick started and we're all complaining already. Today we got together for a little run and spirits were high. TB, Otto, and Boldt ran a Hansen Fartlek and there were rumors of potent gas by the youngest member of said group. K-Mouse and Hummer just did the Hansen loop without the pick ups as both of them are trying to "keep it real".

Good First Meet
The 800 meter run was quite a spectacle at this year's Maroon and Grey Alumni Race. Boldt, TB, and Otto all ran the half-mile race in style and looked fairly dominant in so doing. Boldt and Otto took the top two spots with high 1:55s while TB ran a good 2:01. Everyone looked smooth and strong. Great opener!

Big Workout
Today, Boldt, TB, Otto, and Hummer ran a pretty good workout. 800 AT, 900 at date pace + 20 sec., 3x3x300 (sets of 46,45,44 for dan and andrew; 47,46,45 for otto; 48,47,46 for TB) , 3x100 at 14 sec. Thats a lot to consume, but the young crew did it well. Everyone hit their times and looked sexy doing it. Afterward we decided that we had not quite worked hard enough so we went in the weight room and lifted for a solid 45 minutes... so there, Mark Guthrie!

7 miler
Nice easy 7 miler today with adam kleinmaus the great. Boldt had the flu so he stayed home! We did schmidty's for 5 miles, and then ran into Myrick park to get an extra 2 miles.....eeeeewow!

Saturday's long run
we did the hummer-8, which is really about 7.5 miles. Reverse shithouse, then continue into into the reverse rabbit trails for what seemed to be 7.5 miles. Historically, Hummer did this run in 41 minutes, today with Swamp Thing (Tom Bauer) leading, we did it in 47 minutes and 39 seconds.

First offical day of 2006 T&F
The First offical day of the 2006 track and field season kicked off with a blast today. J.J. rejoined the group for the first time in about three weeks, refuting speculation of death, disease, and delinquency. He, TB, Ottoman Empire, myself, and Bomb went on the 5 mile loop we call rabbit trails and spoke much about TB's body odor and necessary maturation. We've developed a nine step process by which TB can become a man... we'll see how it goes.
