Loras

It was a pretty ugly day. Rain came down all day and the wind picked up as the meet went on.
Tom - 2:02.9, 10th place.

My legs were feeling great yesterday but the conditions didn't help me at all. I'm not trying to make excuses but nobody ran well. I gave it my all, and it wasn't good enough to break two yesterday.

I thought I knew when to expect my race to start but the timing system kept breaking and it slowed the meet down a lot. I started to warm up about 2 hours before my race actually started. When I figured out how long it was going to take I went on a short second warm-up.

My legs were still feeling pretty good when the first heat started. The winner came through in 1:57.6, and second in 1:57.7. The next guys were 2:00 and 2:01. So I came to the line thinking I can break 2 and take 3rd. I was ready, but then the timing system broke again, and we waited 10 min before they decided to hand time it. I got my sweats back on and tried to stay warm.

We got out in a 28 I think, but then it slowed down. I stayed in third place drafting off of second, but we slowed down a bit and came through the 400 in around 59. I didn't want to make my move too early so I waited until 300 to go and moved into 2nd. I was gaining on first and almost caught him until about 50 to go. He broke away as 2 guys came from behind and passed me. The winner of my heat ran a 2:01.

I am dissapointed with my time, but mostly with the conditions. I felt like I ran as hard as I could. I ran my best time so far at the first meet when it was hot and sunny. So I think I just need another hot day and I know I will break it.

Good work TB, it sounds like perhaps you need to find a race that gets out in 28.5, 29.5 (58.0) and continues at that pace through the 600 meter mark. I think that would be your best bet to break 2:00 this year. If you find a race that gets you out in this manner you should try to be a little more patient that I'v eseen you - wait until 150 or so to make your move. This outdoor season you've been passed on the home stretch on multiple occasions. I fyou wait a little longer you will do the passing and, thus, gain momentum and confidence as you finish the last 50 meters.

Nice job this weekend. The time will come, just hang in there.
