After standing around all day at our fundraiser trackmeet for the high schools, I was exhausted and definitely did not want to run. It took at least a mile of running for me to get into it, then we slowly rolled into the pickup, but finished it H-A-R-D. Mouse Hummer and I finished together which is a definite surprise, usually it spreads out.
I didn't feel good at all for the pick up in the middle. I hadn't eaten much of anything all day. I got a bad sideache during the pick up and I dropped back pretty far from the other guys. However if our route really was a mile I still did it pretty hard, in like 5:15.
Because of working the track meet, I hardly ate or drank anything before the run. I was quite dehydrated. We started the run pretty slow and we are were talking ourselves out of the pick up. We didnt even know if we were going to do it until a block before we started. We rolled in to it at a moderate pace. I could tell that we definitely picked it up when we hit the turn around of the loop. It also felt like we picked it up once we hit the eagle statue. We finished quite hard. Suprisingly, I felt relatively good for the pick up. Immediately afterwards we slowed down a bit. It took about a mile for me to recover and feel good running again.
It has been a while since I felt as bad on a run as I did for the initial one mile warm up. I was doing lots of the bargaining to get us to think about not running th epick up because of how bad I felt, but I was convinced that we could just modify it, start it slow. Once we bagan, however, my legs woke up and I felt pretty good. The pace was very quick and we rolled through th epark at what I believe to be slightly over 5:00 pace. It was a good day in the end.
