Saturday Turkey Trot

The tri-force ran ahead of plan today:

Snorkel - 16:02 (1st - 15 year old from tomah)

Big dog - 16:04 (2nd). 1630 proj

Otto - 16:29 (5th). 1640 proj

Mouz - 16:47 (8th). 1655 proj

The great All-American veteran Andy Grupa school record holder national champion ran 16:06 for 3rd place and offered some post-race words of wisdom to us young bloods.

We all got beat by a 15 year old with a sharpie markered t-shirt disgracing us for our insufficiencies. How we stared at that for the whole race and couldn't bone-crush him the world will never know.

happy with this performance.

the first mile was sub 5 according to mouse, and then i started to move the pack harder in the 2nd mile and i thought i had the race clinched, but i ended up getting bone crushed on west avenue in the 3rd mile.

good experience overall but clearly running without a watch led us to run over-confidently about our capabilities in the beginnings of the race

the race got out hot. i dropped off early and still went through the mile in under 5:10. got lazy the second mile and fell back even further. started to throw down halfway up west ave and passed about 5 people. last mile i felt the pain of going out a little to brisk. finished in 8th place in a time of 16:46. This is my 5k pr by 20 seconds.

overall i think the day was successful. my goal was to break 17 and i accomplished that. wasnt expecting this level of competition. based on last years results i thought we would go 1 2 3. very cold at the start of the race due to starting 5 minutes late. its been a long week with school, running, and trying not to succumb to sickness, so i think today was fine.

got a medal and socks

2 mile wu and 3 mile cd for 8 miles today and 47 for the week so far.
