i got out hard and moved into 2nd place to follow marquette's "154" guy, and subsequently got boxed in by a bunch of amateurs. At the 400m mark, all those guys fell off. At the 600m mark, the marquette guy slowed down. i overpowered the iowa guy down the homestretch.
this race felt terribly slow, and that is not an exaggeration. the second lap's backstretch felt like a crawl as people were achieving constant deceleration. the 600m mark was like a launch pad from what seemed 5k pace to 100m race pace.
coach esten told me to run intelligently and not wire-to-wire, so i let the marquette guy do all the work.
the win was satisfying, but the time was not. im eager to PR at conference trials, and then again at finals
The race sucked. I made some mistakes and put myself in a situation that was not good. Quite disappointed in myself today. Just gonna learn from the bad things and make sure that doesnt happen next week.
I felt really good about the way I competed. I ended up in 6tyh place and raced hard against some really good guys. Had the pace been what I expected from the big studs that controlled everything I would have had a fantastic mark. Though the time wasn't there I am still happy with how I moved during the race and th edefinitive move that I was able to make with 220 to go. According to my Dad I split 56.8, 57.1 (hand time) which shows a good sign of strength. I look forward to the rest of the races this year, this was a confidence booster.
