as boldt handed me the baton i took off feeling absolutely amazing. i sat on the leaders for the first 400 just thinking i was going to kill them in the 2nd lap. i made one surge during that lap to pass someone who later passed me back. that surge was a mistake. i hit the 400 a little too hot, maybe 53hi. i maintained some of that speed into the 600, but i really hit the wall at that point.

somehow i don't feel like it was my lack of ability, i just felt dead. of course some of this was due to my blistering first 400, but it was also from dead legs. with the coming tapering, i am confident that I am going to break the 1:54 barrier.

I was really pleased with my ability to maneuver through the crowded space that was created by 20 bodies on the track. The start of the race really came much quicker that I expected it to and so for the first lap I was concerning myself with finding a good position and being patient for the last 300 meters. My legs didn't feel totally under me until bout 550 into the race when I realized I should think about moving instead of focusing on maintaining my position. As I started to work my way up around the last turn I started looking for Mouse and could not find him. It was one of the most frustrating 60 meters of my life... I started to get passed by a few people and knew that I should be rolling, but I had no bearing until I finally made eye contact with Adam. The last 25 meters of my leg and all the way through the exchange zone I was able to get the pistons firing again and we worked well to get the stick out ahead of almost everyone.

When I finished I had tons of energy left and I felt that I hadn't run much faster than 1:57. I was surprised when I was told that I had split 1:52 mid and it shpot me with confidence that will last the rest of the year. What a day!
